Principal's Letter 8-26-2022

August 26th, 2022

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

We hope you are having an enjoyable summer.  September 6th is the first day of school for high school students.  We will welcome the class of 2026 to the high school for the first time at our Freshman Orientation on August 31st at 9:00 a.m.

At WHS, we believe in the “whole child” approach.  We realize the awesome responsibility we have as educators and we are dedicated to providing a high school experience for our students that is based on the following principles:

  • We believe in placing an emphasis on 21st Century skills.
  • We believe in supporting our students’ physical, social, emotional and academic development.
  • We believe in promoting global citizenship.
  • We believe in supporting our students’ talents and passions.

As we prepare to welcome back our students for the 2022-23 school year, we would also like to reflect upon the accomplishments of the Class of 2022 where we achieved  the following:

  • 339 graduates
  • a 96% graduation rate
  • 85% of graduates pursuing higher education
  • $6.2 million in reported scholarships

Academic Eligibility:

Students are reminded to review the High School Academic Eligibility Policy. Students who failed one or more classes for the 2021-22 school year will begin this school year on academic probation unless they successfully completed the course in summer school.

Planners/Code of Conduct:

The WHS planner and code of conduct is available online on the high school website, or directly here.  Students are asked to review the information provided and resources that are available.  The high school assistant principals will be visiting classes during the first weeks of school to discuss expectations and provide resources.

Chromebooks:

Students in grades 10-12 will utilize chromebooks they have received previously.  Incoming 9th graders and new students will receive their chromebooks on the first day of school during their  first period class.

Food Services:

Please be aware that the federally funded “free lunch for all” program has ended. Students who qualify may apply for free or reduced lunch by accessing this form. Additional information in regards to food services can be found on this web page.

Guidance Department:

  • Schooltool Student and Parent Portals will be opened on Wednesday, August 31stStudents will need to log in to their Schooltool student portal  (via Wizard Launch) to review their schedule and note the location of their block 1 BLUE day classroom.  We want to remind parents and students to use their Schooltool portals regularly to keep informed on student academic information and progress.
  • If you have had any changes over the summer to your address, phone and/or email, please inform the school district immediately. For address changes, please contact the Registrar’s Office.  Email and/or phone number changes can be directed to the WHS Guidance Office.
  • Please take note of our school district website address change to https://www.wcsdk12.org/  Staff email addresses now end in @wcsdk12.org.  Our website has a lot of useful information for our students and parents/guardians.  Please also note the school district’s social media footprint for utilizing this venue.
  • Please visit our dedicated working papers page for those seeking employment.

Over the past couple of years, our staff and students have been presented with some unique challenges due to the pandemic.  As a school and community, through collaboration, resiliency and Wizard pride, we have been able to meet those challenges head on and rise above.  The start of a new school year brings hope, enthusiasm, and opportunity.  The staff and entire faculty is excited to welcome our students back to WHS.  We look forward to working together to provide our students with a learning environment in the hope that they find their “Pride, Passion, and Purpose.”

We hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer and we will see you soon.

Sincerely,

Mr. Connolly

WHS Principal
