This past spring the Washingtonville High School bands performed at the annual Spring Band Concert that featured five original student compositions by WHS graduates Jack Carola, Ryan Godfrey, Ella Dueck, and current WHS student Andrew Dahlstrom. The five composers' performances ended with a standing ovation from their fellow families and friends. To read more about the performance or view photos, please visit the WHS page.
Their performance was noticed by the head editor of The Instrumentalist Magazine (a national bimonthly magazine for music educators — focusing on scholastic band and orchestra, as well as performing artists and composers). The editor asked the WHS band members and their band directors, Ari Contzius and Nicole Redeker, to write about the students’ process of composing the pieces and running rehearsals for eight weeks in preparation for their premieres.
The August/September magazine issue was received by over 12,000 high school and middle school music teachers throughout the country!
