The Washingtonville High School Odyssey of the Mind team competed against teams from all over the world in the World Finals held at Iowa State University, May 25-28.
The team was required to build a Matryoshka structure team, also known as nesting dolls, using only balsa wood and glue. The structure had to hold as much weight as possible and is tested by adding Olympic-sized weights until it breaks. The WHS team's Matryoshka structure held 930 pounds. The team was also required to write and design a skit to match the structure, which they performed as the structure was unveiled to the audience. When the skit and structure scores were combined, the WHS team earned a third place finish in the tournament!
The team members are Julia Ariano, Miranda Frisbee, Summer Giovene, Anne Hagan, Casey Lee, Ashwin Maurya and Karoline Rosa-Cesani. Congratulations to all on such an impressive showing!
