Last weekend, both WHS Odyssey of the Mind (OM) teams won their division and qualified to compete in the New York State OM tournament in Syracuse on March 26.
One WHS team was required to build a Matryoshka structure, also known as nesting dolls, using only balsa wood and glue. The structure had to hold as much weight as possible as well as additional structures nested one inside the other. The WHS team's Matryoshka structure held 510 pounds! Students on the team are: Miranda Frisbee, Summer Giovene, Ashwin Maurya, Julia Ariano, Casey Lee and Karoline Rosa-Cesani.
The other WHS team was tasked with creating and a performing a live musical about a selected historic figure; they chose paleontologist Mary Anning. They wrote and performed three songs: an opening number, an emotional number whose music conveyed an emotion and one, which the team determined. Also, the performance had to include a lighting special effect, movement of scenery, and a membership sign appeared as a marquee for the team’s musical. Team members are: Katie Mcvey, Hailey Leonard, Isabella Brown, Anna Buchanan, Bridget Hagan, Mollie Meffert and Abby Fontana.
Congratulations to both WHS teams and good luck in the New York State OM tournament!
