On Thursday, April 24th, the Washingtonville High School Project Lead the Way Engineering class had the exciting opportunity to visit the United States Military Academy at West Point during its annual Research Symposium.
“It was a great experience for the students of our Research Program to see higher-level research, hear the Cadets present and take in the atmosphere of a poster conference,” said Principal Brian Connolly. “The reciprocal interaction was very valuable and unique for our students. This trip was the embodiment of our district's Pillars of Excellence: Student Experience, Academic Excellence, and Community Connection.”
Upon arrival, students toured the Chemical and Electrical Engineering building, where they experienced state-of-the-art facilities up close. The visit provided a firsthand look at how the cadets’ hard work and top-tier resources lead to innovative projects with real-world applications.
During this, students were able to read and observe research posters, as well as engage with the Cadets presenting their projects to ask them questions. Some topics students learned about were drones and their use for bringing medicine to the training field and cyber security & AI fingerprinting.
This incredible opportunity not only gave future engineers a glimpse into what they can achieve in college but also allowed them to take in the breathtaking sights of the West Point campus.
